The Galaxy bars, which unexpectedly emerged from our furnace within our Casper, WY minting facility in December 2022, were both beautiful and difficult to handle – the galaxy effect was extraordinarily fragile.
Unfortunately, as careful as we were in packing the bars for their trip to our Arizona facility, the galaxy effect did not survive the trip south and we were left with rather ordinary kilo bars with only traces of the original brilliant coloring.
With just a handful of bars left, we experimented for the next 12 months on ways to preserve this beautiful effect such that the bars could handle the handling of packaging and transport and still look as beautiful as the day they were cast.
The good news is we believe we have found a way to preserve the galaxy effect on future bars such that our customers can enjoy their beauty without worrying about damaging the bar.
We are left waiting for that next batch of bars to emerge from the furnace emblazoned with the galaxy effect as this is something quite rare. Thus until that time, we remain ready to bring this beautiful bar to all of you who have waited so patiently.
Scottsdale Galaxy Silver Bars
What is Galaxy Silver?
Galaxy Silver, a distinctive category of bars emerging from our minting furnaces adorned with an exceptionally rare iridescent blue flake appearance. Crafted from the finest 9999 pure silver grain, these bars exhibit a breathtakingly delicate yet brilliant blue aesthetic.
Did Scottsdale Mint add anything to these Galaxy bars?
No, Scottsdale Mint engineers and operators did not add anything to these bars. When asked for a statement, our President, Josh Phair, responded “These bars are made from the highest quality 9999 pure Silver we have. This same silver is used every day to make our popular Wall Street Mint and Reserve Kilos, as well as dozens of other products.”
We are currently in the process of putting into production our new facility in Casper, Wyoming. Mr. Phair quietly announced this development in June of 2022 to the Casper City Board and the local papers. In late December, our first casting machine came online and was being commissioned with test runs of one Kilogram bars when this event occurred.
We stand by all of our products, and want to be completely transparent with our investors and collectors whenever we put out new products. These bars will be stamped the Scottsdale Lion and be clearly labeled with “.9999 Silver.”
Has this happened before?
In fact, we have seen this crystallization happen before. Though we talked up the extreme rarity of this event on social media, we have seen this crystallization happen before occasionally at our Scottsdale, Arizona mint, as you can see in this post from our instagram from 2015! However, these bars would often come out of Continuous Casting machines, and would have patterned lines running through from the continuous cooling and ejection.

Those were never bars we considered releasing to the public, as they did not have the finish and flare that we pride ourselves on presenting to our fans.
What was unique for this round of bars was that it happened in our Cast Bars machine, the effect was far more brilliant than what we had seen in the past, and the bars had an overall finish that we felt we could be happy releasing to the public as long as investors were made aware of the slightly blemishing that occurred.
In past events, these bars would have been polished after casting to get a uniform and clean typical silver shine, and the iridescence would have immediately disappeared, as only the very top of the molecular structure contains the crystal appearance.
