Cayman Islands
The flag of the Cayman Islands is a distinctive symbol of the British Overseas Territory's identity and heritage. It features a blue field with the Union Jack in the upper left corner and a unique emblem in the lower right corner.
The emblem consists of a shield with a green sea turtle, which represents the natural marine environment of the islands. Above the shield, there is a gold three-masted ship, symbolizing the maritime history and the islands' connection to seafaring. The shield is supported by a gold lion on either side, symbolizing strength and courage, and beneath it is a banner with the motto "He hath founded it upon the seas," reflecting the islandsÔÇÖ maritime heritage.
The flag was officially adopted on April 14, 1958, when the Cayman Islands were granted a new constitution. Its design reflects the islands' British ties, their rich maritime history, and the natural beauty of the territory.
