Dominican Republic
The flag of the Dominican Republic is a striking and symbolic representation of the nation's identity and history. It consists of a central white cross that divides the flag into four rectangles. The top left and bottom right rectangles are blue, while the top right and bottom left rectangles are red.
At the center of the white cross is the national coat of arms. The coat of arms features a shield with a depiction of the Bible, which symbolizes the nation's Christian faith, and a cross that represents the belief in salvation. Surrounding the shield are branches of palm and laurel, symbolizing peace and victory, respectively. The coat of arms is crowned by a banner with the national motto: "Dios, Patria, Libertad," meaning "God, Fatherland, Liberty."
The flag was officially adopted on November 6, 1844, shortly after the country gained independence from Haiti. Its design reflects the Dominican Republic's values of faith, freedom, and national pride, and the colors and symbols are deeply intertwined with its history and cultural heritage.
