Greece
The flag of Greece is a striking symbol of the nation’s history and ideals. It features nine horizontal stripes of alternating blue and white, with the blue stripes at the top and bottom. These stripes represent the sky and sea, and the struggle for independence.
In the upper left corner, there is a blue square with a white cross. The cross signifies the Greek Orthodox religion, which is a central part of Greek cultural and national identity. The blue and white colors of the flag are also inspired by the traditional colors of the Greek national dress and the emblem of the country’s independence struggle.
The flag was officially adopted on December 22, 1978, but its design and symbolism have been a part of Greek identity since the early 19th century, reflecting the nation's deep historical and cultural roots.
