New York
The flag of New York, known as the "New York State Flag," features a rich and symbolic design. It consists of a deep blue field with the state seal prominently displayed in the center. The seal depicts two figuresÔÇöLiberty and JusticeÔÇöstanding beside a shield. Liberty, holding a staff with a liberty cap, represents freedom and independence, while Justice, holding a sword and scales, symbolizes fairness and the rule of law. The shield features a depiction of the sun rising over a landscape with a ship and a river, representing the state's resources and economic prosperity. Above the shield is an eagle holding a shield with the state's emblem, and the banner below the seal bears the state motto, "Excelsior," meaning "Ever Upward." The flag was officially adopted on April 1, 1901, and it reflects New York's commitment to justice, liberty, and progress.
