What is Alpha & Omega?

 

“Alpha & Omega” are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, and are used in the Bible as a title to describe Jesus Christ as the “beginning and the end.”

 

The design for the Alpha & Omega coin was inspired by a mosaic located in one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States of America, and is struck with the phrase “I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith,” a reference to II Timothy 4:7-8.

 

Throughout his life on earth, Jesus had a special concern for the weak and vulnerable, and we at Scottsdale Mint want to follow his example. Reality in the Congo

Imagine sitting in a small warehouse of a school so hot and humid your sweat is falling down your back. You woke up early and walked for over an hour to get to class, only to sit swamped among 300 hundred other students, many of them very young children, who are all crammed in the same tiny warehouse. The teacher yells to be heard, but its useless as you are so far back and your friends nearby continue to talk.

 

This is the reality for tens of thousands of students in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There is no way for students to build a relationship with their teacher or for teachers to even know their own students names. How We Can Help

That’s why Scottsdale Mint is so excited to participate in a matching program with our missionary partners to bring joy this Christmas season to dozens of children by building and expanding upon a school in the village of Gemena. We have partnered with the ministry GlobalFingerprints and for every Alpha and Omega coin bought, Scottsdale Mint will donate a certain amount to our partners to further develop the school this coming spring.

 

For only $25,000, we can build an amazing classroom addition for 2nd grade students, a small and personal classroom, that can meet children right where they are at, educationally, emotionally and spiritually. All of the children in our program are orphans, making it the first time many of them will receive one on one care for their education and personal well being.

 

This is only our first in a larger series of goals we hope to match this Christmas season. We also want to go above and beyond in meeting our stretch goals and provide a separate classroom for children with disabilities as well as a local water well.

What’s the plan?

Stretch Goals

Once we have secured the $25,000 dollars for our private school, we will open up a stretch goal for an addition to that school for children with hearing impairments.

 

Children with disabilities in the Congo are seen as terrible burdens to their families and communities. Hearing impairment is one of the largest disabilities and is extremely prevalent in the Congo.
